An unnamed Belgian player has this month become the lucky winner of the largest online slot prize of all time. The record-breaking €19.4 million ($23.438 million) jackpot was won on Microgaming’s Mega Moolah: Absolootly Mad at Napoleon Casino. The original stake put down was just €15 ($18.30).

Absolootly Mad is the latest edition in Microgaming’s Mega Moolah series, all of which share a huge progressive jackpot.

The lucky jackpot winner chose not to reveal his identity to the media.

However, he did talk to the press about some details. According to the player himself, he only deposited at Napoleon Casino after reading about another €2 million jackpot winner who scooped the top prize on Microgaming’s Sherlock & Moriarty playing there the previous week.

“I read how last week, a Napoleon player won a multi-million jackpot, and of course, I started dreaming about it as well. But to actually live this moment… I feel so lucky,”

the anonymous player told reporters

Time De Borle, CEO of Napoleon Online Casino (a large Belgian operator), said he was “mind blown” that two incredibly large jackpots should happen at his casino over just a few weeks.

“Last week, we were already over the moon when a player won our 2 million Wowpot. But to have a second winner on our platform, for a world record-breaking amount, is just sensational and highly exceptional. This is a unique moment in betting history worldwide,”

Setting Records

Microgaming’s original Mega Moolah slot launched back in 2006. It was one of the first super progressive jackpot titles, and the first millionaire was made from the game just two years later in 2008.

Fast forward a few years, and there are half a dozen slots that share one giant Mega Moolah progressive jackpot, which often goes above $10 million or more.

The previous World Record online slot win, certified by the Guinness Book of Records, was £13.2 million ($18.525 million) won by British soldier John Heywood in 2015. That was also on the Mega Moolah slot game, at the UK’s Betway Casino.

Such big wins must be good press for gambling companies in Europe that are being increasingly squeezed by regulators in recent years.

“We’re absolootly delighted to see Mega Moolah make history once again with its latest record-breaking win, and what an incredible win it is,”

Microgaming CEO John Coleman

“That’s the largest jackpot payout in an online slot of all time,” he continued, “Congrats to the player, and well done to Napoleon Sports & Casino on their second Mega jackpot win on our network in as many weeks.”

In April, the company also shelled out £15 million ($21.05 million) to one lucky customer at 32Red, who won the Book of Atem WowPot top prize from just an £0.80 stake.

These are all certainly big wins. But, of course, they’re chump change compared to Microgaming’s overall revenues and value.

Although the European company is notoriously tight-lipped about its finances, it claims to have paid out over $1.5 billion in prizes on its slot network since the early 2000s.
