In today’s world, you can bet money on pretty much everything. In this article, we take a look at what sports betting enthusiasts are saying about world politics in regard to the rest of the year.

Sports betting is an interesting hobby. Normally, bettors around the world place their bets on which sports team or individual will perform best. Whether it be the ice hockey world championship or the Olympics, you can generally bet on every sport imaginable. This is not all, however, as the likes of reality TV shows and the Academy Awards are not exempt either. And neither is world politics!

UK and US in the Spotlight

There are several major political questions that will be answered by the end of this calendar year. Some of the most important ones include the following:

  • Will Liz Truss keep her place as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?
  • What will happen in the US midterm elections?

The first one of these betting markets might need a little bit of explaining.

Liz Truss Could Be Out

In September 2022, Liz Truss replaced Boris Johnson as the new sitting Prime Minister of the UK. Her predecessor Johnson had simply had too many political scandals and finally decided to resign as the leader of the Conservative Party.

Unfortunately, the new Prime Minister has not had a rosy couple of months as things like her economic recovery plan have come under heavy scrutiny by her fellow ministers.

At the moment, pundits are giving Liz Truss only a slim chance of keeping her job. In fact, close to 85% believe that she will already be gone by November 10th. This equates to around 1.40 times your bet and would make the UK’s third female Prime Minister’s tenure the shorters in the history of the island nation.

US Democrats Could Be Losing Their Spots

In the US, the Midterm Elections are coming in November and the control of much of Congress is up for grabs. As always, it is a race between the two major parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. For the past two years, Democrats have had the majority in both chambers of Congress—with the addition of the Democratic president Joe Biden, of course.

At the moment, sports betting sites are giving Democrats good odds of retaining control of the Senate. Their odds of accomplishing this are around 1.67, whereas the Republicans’ odds come in at 2.1. However, it is a completely different story with the House of Representatives as Republicans are the clear front-runners with 1.17 odds while the Democrats are trailing far behind with their 4.5 odds.

If the punters are indeed correct, Liz Truss will be out this year, the Democrats will keep the Senate, and the Republicans will take control of the House. Remains to be seen, eh?

Conclusion

In my mind, it is quite incredible that people can wager their hard-earned money on things like world politics. Same as with sports, bettors can either decide to place their bets based on what they hope will happen or what they actually think will happen. Oh, and if you happen to disagree with the odds listed here, you can always go take a look at our betting site selection to find a sportsbook that lets you hedge your bets!
